In the United States, over nine million people are arrested each year. Between one-third and one-half of these arrests involve substance use disorders. This was the topic Daniels Professor Dr. James Sorensen presented at a national conference of the Community Oriented Correctional Health Services (COCHS) in Bethesda, MD this march. His specific topic was “Criminal Justice, Substance Use Disorders (SUDs) and Rate-Setting for Services Funded by Medicaid.” With the The Affordable Care Act (ACA) early intervention and treatment of substance use disorders are part of improving and maintaining overall health.
